It is one of the most important aspects to investigate before choosing the right laptop for yourself. If you are a travel enthusiast and a power outlet is not always nearby then good battery life is important. Stay away from 4k displays and gaming laptops if you want a good battery life because they will need to be plugged in at most times. Choose a laptop that works for at least 6-7 hours.

12.5-to-14-inch screens are pretty good as they offer portability and is more than you will need for most people.

If you play high-end games and you have a workstation and need a bigger, better screen then a 17-to-18-inch screen is what you will need. A 17-to-18-inch system will also provide you with the right processing power for all your work and gaming.

4. Processor

If you are a casual user and all you do is casual browsing, videos, light apps then the Intel Core i3 Processor will be good for you.  It is on the cheaper side, and you can easily get your hands on them if your budget is anywhere from Rs 25000 to Rs 45000. Some companies offer Intel Core i3 with turbo boost which is a bit faster.

Intel Core i5 is the perfect middle ground for someone who plays games, works, uses heavier apps, edits videos, etc.

It is great for students and working adults.

If you have the budget to go a step above i5 then i7 is a great choice. It has faster performance; it can run heavier apps and games, but all this also comes with a premium price.

Supplanting i7, top-of-the-line i9 has the fastest performing mobile chip ever. It comes with premium laptops. It is great for architects and people in similar professions. It can run high-end gaming so gamers can also have this on their list.

5. Storage

Storage is easier to understand than other specs. Storage is measured in Gigabytes and terabytes, A 1000 gb is equal to 1 tb so make your choice wisely.

If you want more space and are okay with compromising on speed, then hard drive disc (HDD) is the way to go as they are cheaper and are laptop’s built-in central storage.

Another option is solid-state drives (SSD), you can choose to have lesser space on your HDD and get an SSD for a faster laptop. They are 3 times faster than HDD and make the laptop a lot faster. The new PCIe x4 (aka NVME) is a great option as it speeds up the read and writes speeds of your laptop.

6. RAM –

RAM (Random access memory) is essentially short-term memory where data is stored as the processor needs it. Cheaper laptops come with 4 GB of RAM, but it is preferred to get at least 8 GB RAM to open multiple applications at a time without your laptop giving on to you.

If you want to play games or use heavier apps then a 16 GB RAM or more is the right way to go.

7. Display –

The display comes in varying types such as 1368×780 which comes with lower-end laptops and is not recommended. We recommend a minimum of 1920×1080 (Full HD) which works well for most people. Basically, the more pixels it has the more you can fit more in the screen and get a sharper image.

As we mentioned before 4k (3840×2160) displays are great, but they will consume your battery very quickly and will mostly have to stay plugged. If battery life is not an issue you can go forward with a 4k display, OLED display, and new to the market mini-LED displays.

While choosing the best display you should also consider refresh rates. Most laptops have a refresh rate of 60 Hz which is fine but if you want to play games then 144 Hz is recommended

8. Ports

Having ports is also a criterion of choosing the right laptop or carrying extensions everywhere and it will not be nice. The must-have ports are USB 3.0, HDMI especially if you have to connect to larger screens like projectors or TVs, headphone jack, and SD card slot. Some people might need a type-C USB port or thunderbolt 3/ Thunderbolt 4 port,t which is a great option because you can connect them to a universal charger and docks and an Ethernet port if you want a more stable wired internet connection.

If you travel and are on the move a lot look for laptops with 4G LTE or 5G support. You might have to pay extra for the subscription, but it will provide you with an internet connection away from your home, anywhere.

10. Graphics card

If you are a student or a working adult or just someone who is a casual user you do not need a graphics card for your laptop but if you are a gamer, you create 3D objects and use rendering software then you may need graphics card.
With NVIDIA RTX 1650 you can comfortably play most games, but for the best gaming experience, we recommend NVIDIA RTX 2070 or higher. If that is out of your budget and NVIDIA RTX 1650 is not enough, you should go for NVIDIA RTX 2060.

11. Choose the right Operating System- Mac OS vs Windows vs Chrome OS

Windows OS is a very flexible operating system. Most of the laptops in the market run on Windows. Windows comes preloaded on most laptops, which helps to make it the most popular operating system in the world.
Windows makes it possible to complete all types of tasks on your computer. For example, you can use Windows to browse the Internet, check your email, edit digital photos, listen to music, play games, etc.
 Mac OS is the Operating system that Apple uses in their MacBooks. Overall, the operating system is like windows but is more secure to use. Mac OS is not made for touch unlike windows OS and chrome OS but that’s what iPads are for. It has a lot of exciting features like Siri, Apple Pay, unlock laptop from your Apple Watch, and much more.
 Chrome OS is usually found on inexpensive Chromebooks such as Samsung Chromebook 3. Chrome OS has a secure and simple interface. It looks a lot like windows interface, the main app you use on Chrome OS is obviously the chrome browser. You can even download apps from the google play store. Chromebooks are very handy and versatile and tend to offer good battery life at good prices. A 4 GB RAM and 16 GB storage will be enough for a Chromebook.
